We were 50 students in our study team under the guidance of two teacher coordinators and 5 parents. Our journey started at 9.00 am from Govnt. Girls H.S.S Alappuzha by bus. The teacher coordinators gave instructions about the formalities to be observed in the premises of the space centre. They also gave instructions regarding the classes which we have to attend at VSSC in the next days.
We reached Thiruvananthapuram at 2.00 pm. We stayed at Govnt. Cottonhill Girls H.S.S Pattom, where our accommodation was provided. After having our refreshment, we have visited some places in the city especially the Padmanabhapuram palace and the temple. After that we returned to the school.
After our breakfast we were divided into 5 groups for journey to the space centre at 8.00 am in a vehicle provided by the VSSC. In the gate we obtained the entry pass. We had visited several institutes like the chemical propulsion unit etc which were working in coordination with VSSC. We also visited the space museum which is assigned inside the church ( The St Mary Magdalene church which was housed the first office of the Thumba Space Centre.) The guides and staff of VSSC explained the functioning of the various units of each corner. There were so many models of satellites, rockets etc. We were also got a golden opportunity to watch a video presentation showing the launching of a satellite. It was about 30 minutes. After that we were provide refreshment by the authorities concerned. In the afternoon there was an interactive session as a part of the space week was conducted. It was lead by the eminent scientists and the engineers of various units under the control of the director of VSSC. They discussed about the importance of the space week and the history behind celebrating the programme in detail. At the evening the class concluded and we returned to the school.
The third day there was a rocket launching. We are blessed to see the launching. We were blessed to see the launching directly from the premises of VSSC. I was so much anxious for seeing the rocket launching session.
As a continuation of the class which were happened yesterday there was a class regarding the space week were taken for us. At the end section we expressed our views and doubts regarding the things that they had discussed.
Since this was the last day of our programme few of us expressed our sincere gratitude to the VSSC staff for giving us a wonderful opportunity. At the end we were provided with certificates by the authorities.
